22 none of the men who have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and yet have put me to the test these ten times and have not obeyed my voice, 23 shall see the land that I swore to give to their fathers. And none of those who despised me shall see it. (Numbers 14:22-23 ESV)
How can we continue to test God or disobey Him and expect that things will go in our favor? Scripture clearly states that while God provides us salvation freely that our lives may require bearing Christ cross. God desires our best, but at times may use failure and disappointment in our lives for His own reasons or to refocus our attention rightly upon Him.
You see, we really do not want God looking at us this closely. Scripture is clear on the fact that when we first believe we are inhabited by the Holy Spirit. However, we can still see God as this distant entity and not as an indwelling spirit. As such we think we live in this bubble where we let God into certain aspects of our lives but keep Him out of others.
We cannot hide from God. All of the darkness in our lives laid bare and shown for what it is in God’s pure light. Thus, in good times and bad we must stay true to our faith and accept what God is putting before us and learn the lessons He has for us. We must not test God.
