Getting To It

22 And now, behold, I am going to Jerusalem, constrained by[a] the Spirit, not knowing what will happen to me there, 23 except that the Holy Spirit testifies to me in every city that imprisonment and afflictions await me. 24 But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. (Acts 20:22-24 ESV)

Consider that you have been sent on a journey and the main thing you know about it is that it will result in imprisonment and afflictions. Would you still go? Probably not.

After Jesus was crucified, and they were commissioned upon His return, the apostles realized what most assuredly awaited them. They had watched what the Christ had suffered for His message of salvation to the world. They could expect about the same treatment, but they went anyhow.

Like soldiers being sent into battle, they realize the potential cost, but they go. They have a duty and a job to do and the best of them are all about getting to that job. We too wade into the world knowing that it may hate us because it hated Him first. But we need to be all about getting to it.

A, “Getting to it”, attitude is a must with anything that may approach unsavory. The path God has us on is one where we can experience joy in the midst of pain and even suffering. A path that contains difficulty but also peace within the folds of God’s arms. Thus, we must keep this getting to it attitude and carry on as did the apostles.
