The Body

19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 ESV)

As I write this, I think about the fact that I have not gotten a ride in on my mountain bike in over a week. I have plenty of excuses, too much work, too hot, too tired, but the reality is that I am not getting any younger and working out just takes more out of me. But I need to make time for it!

The same can be said for how we treat our bodies from a spiritual sense. I have written before about so many people who think they have no addictions. But when I point out the long hours they work or their complete focus upon nothing but money, and they do not think that this is addiction. It is. To be honest, I think we all have some form of addiction if we really look closely at our lives.

We need to look at how we treat ourselves physically and mentally. Maladies of the body can also be a byproduct of our mental state. I, personally, am a stress eater. Well, and I am also someone who lives to eat as opposed to eating to live. So if I am not counteracting the stress and eating with exercise….well, I find I am slipping belt holes and there is nothing worse than giving up yet another hole in my belt.

Life, and our Christian spirituality, is a wholistic endeavor that must compliment one another.
