Stilling your Storm

29 He made the storm be still,
and the waves of the sea were hushed. (Psalm 107:29 ESV)

I was woken up this morning to a really bad storm coming through. It got bad enough that I went to our hall bathroom with the dogs, luckily my wife is away right now. I am the kinda guy who likes to see what’s coming and deal with it. So for me to huddle on a bathroom floor till the storm passes tells you a bit about how bad it truly was. Nothing seems to be leaking or broken this morning, but the sun is not up yet.

I write a lot about the storms in peoples lives. I do so because people need a good word to help them deal with all they are going through. I can think of nothing better than scripture on how Jesus stilled the storm. Today’s was an actual storm, as was our scriptural storm, but Jesus has just as much power to still your personal, mental or emotional storm.

Look, I was praying for God’s protection and for the storm to pass this morning. When we sit in the storm, waiting for it to pass, we think a great many things that may have little relevance to our situation. However, they are things we do to prepare ourselves for what might be. I grabbed pants, shoes, my phone and a small flashlight. I was sitting there with these meager belongings and thinking about other things I should have grabbed. We do the same in a personal storm, we grab to things that may be a temporary help but only God can be a lasting help to still your storms.
