20 a bruised reed he will not break,
and a smoldering wick he will not quench,
until he brings justice to victory; (Matthew 12:20 ESV)
I am sure there are various ways one could interpret today’s scripture. What spoke to me was the fact that through our most difficult times, when we are nothing more than a bruised reed, God will help us from breaking. Like the smoldering wick, He will keep our faith alive so that we can prevail in difficulty.
God does not want to see us break. He wants us to turn to Him and stand ready for the work He is doing in our lives through our difficulty. God does not waste any circumstance, He uses every moment to help us grow and see our need for dependence upon Him. I think it is safe to say that our most difficult times are those we do not accept or recognize God working and so we compound our difficulty.
Thus, if your reed is greatly bruised and bent today, your wick barely smoldering, find your knees and raise up your petition to God. He will fulfill His promises in your life if you are open and willing to accept some changes. His timing may not be your timing, but His plan is greater than our expectations.
