7 The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers. 8 Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. 9 Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. (1 Peter 4:7-9 ESV)
We typically do not go throughout our day thinking that the end is near, and it is probably best that we do not. I expect it could lead to some erratic behavior. However, keeping in mind that Christ could return at any moment should keep us sober-minded and self-controlled. We should consider what we do each moment of the day and not put our selves in a position that could be compromising.
What I mean by this, is being careful of our words and actions to make sure that they are in line with our faith. Every moment is a consideration of heaven or earth. What we are doing or thinking is building one or the other. For what we build on earth will fade away, but what we build in heaven is eternal. Yes, we have to build some on earth to maintain our lives. But even this should have an eye toward heaven.
Furthermore, what we do we should do without grumbling. Is your daily service to Christ filled with love and humble acts toward others? Or are you focused fully upon your own selfish acts that only benefit yourself?
Life has to be a balance, but one we live expectant upon Christ return.
