Confident in..

45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. And I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, (1 Samuel 17:45-46 ESV)

David came to his battle with Goliath, and essentially the entire Philistine army, with confidence not in himself but in God. These passages make it clear that David was giving all coming glory for the battle to God. Note that he does not speculate IF Israel would be successful, but that through God’s hand they already were successful and had won the war.

This level of confidence only comes from one place. A deep seated knowledge that God will fight our battles for us and no matter the outcome, He is victorious.

Too often we try to fight without first going to God and asking Him to intervene. This is our biggest mistake. It is a fallacy to trust in ourselves alone. We need to put 100% of our trust in God and move forward as if the battle is already won. We move forward in God’s strength and not in our weakness. Confident in God’s provision of not if, but when. Your battle cannot be won without this confidence in God.
