¹⁵ Practice these things, immerse yourself in them,^[a] so that all may see your progress. (1 Timothy 4:15 ESV)

I have always wanted to learn Spanish and have tried several times, but to this day know very little. I have heard that an immersive experience is the fastest way to learn a language well. It would be much easier if I were around Spanish speakers frequently, but I am not. However, I could seek them out.

I think anything we want to learn well requires an immersive experience. While studying more and more about aspects of a job helps, being involved deeply daily in it is what provides practical experience. This is why companies look for people with experience. This is why many seek out internships when in school and it is of great value.

Our faith is the same. We must immerse ourselves in it. Studying scripture, praying and seeking to live daily in a way that honors God. As we spend more and more time in practical use of what we learn that we become versed in acting in a Godly way. It is in this practice that we will see progress.
