1 Remember your Creator
in the days of your youth,
before the days of trouble come
and the years approach when you will say,
“I find no pleasure in them” (Ecclesiastes 12:1 NIV)
When is a good time to remember the best way to do something? Well, obviously, it is before you begin. When the realization comes too late we may find that we have either done it the wrong way or taken a harder path to the end goal.
About the only time this does not hold true is when I am riding either my motorcycle or bicycle. Then, forgetting the way, discovering and enjoying a new route can be half the fun.
But in life we need to begin things with the end in mind.
One of my first questions I ask an employee is what do you want to do when you retire. It is funny how this question catches them off-guard and how few have an answer. They are focused on now and how their career is going and not really considering retirement. Thus, they are missing out on creating some great life-long goals by being overly focused on right now.
We do the same with God. We are so focused on what is going on right now that we give little thought to eternity.
Eternity!
Let that sink in. Life is but a wisp of smoke, a vapor that fades quickly. What we do with it should have eternal implications. Are we building a legacy that will stand beyond us and reach into eternity or are we just building for us and for now?
