13 Who among you is wise and understanding? By his good conduct he should show that his works are done in the gentleness that comes from wisdom. (James 3:13 CSB)
Gentleness can be a powerful force. We do not typically think of gentleness in this way. We pay homage to power and forcefulness. But, in many ways, gentleness presents greater strength than any act of power.
The power in being gentle resides in its resolve. Gentle does not have to denote weakness. A gentle nature can be a force that moves people in a positive ways without impressing its own need upon another. It can, in its own resolute way move mountains.
When we can, through a gentle nature, motivate others to action they do so feeling empowered. It is through giving up of our own power that we enable others to act with their own. We can use gentle wisdom to mold and shape a situation without the need to put our mark upon it.
When we use the gentleness of our nature we also allow more room for God to work. We are allowing for the subtleties of life and God’s gentle nature to motivate change in a more natural way. Instead of forcing a situation we are allowing it to blossom on its own. In this we can also see God’s hand in the outcome.
