Choice Choices

Daniel determined that he would not defile himself with the king’s food or with the wine he drank. So he asked permission from the chief eunuch not to defile himself. (Daniel 1:8 CSB)

Every day we are given the ability to choose the less than choice choices or the choice choices. But maybe that is confusing. What I am saying is that we can choose the good things of God (choice choices) or we can choose what the world offered (not so choice choices).

When you go to the supermarket, do you buy the choice items or the secondary items? Maybe there is good reason to choose the sub-par or secondary choices. Cost can be a big factor. However, money aside, we tend to prefer the choice cuts of meat to the inferior. The Grade A chuck over cheaper ground beef.

God gives us Grade A+++ everything. It may not seem so at the time, but in the long run it always is the choice choices. Daniel had the chance to partake of the kings choice choices of food that the king himself ate and drank. But Daniel made a higher choice to not defile himself because he was living by God’s choices for his diet. As the story goes on the chief eunuch allowed him to eat as God had commanded for a period. Then he would judge if Daniel and his friends were in better or worse shape from their diet. Guess who won out.

God’s choices may not be easy ones and may not even seem to be sane ones. But in the end, His choices are the best choice we can make.
