8 “Oh that My people would listen to Me, (Psalm 81:8a)
Do you ever consider, not listening to the Lord is sinful?
But you may say, “I do not hear God speak to me”.
Fair enough, but God speaks to us in many ways and how do you know you have not heard? Have you actually sat and searched (listened) to what He is impressing upon your mind and through your circumstances?
You see, we tend to toss our prayers at God and expect Him to work on our behalf. We toss them up and then are angry when they fall to the floor around us. How unreasonable and presumptuous we are!
In the coming year we should make a point to not toss prayers at God, but to pray fervently and then listen intently for how God will respond. We miss so much by expecting direct answers from a God who is not trying to be indirect. He is so far beyond us that we often cannot see His answers until much later, in hindsight. In fact those answers quite often are not what we pray for at all, but what we actually need.
He knows you far better than you know yourself. So pray for God’s outcome more than your own. Ask for His blessing upon the course of your life. Then act accordingly and see all that He can do with a listening heart.
