3 In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice;
in the morning I plead my case to you and watch expectantly. (Psalms 5:3 CSB)
Beginning the morning with scripture and prayer can set the course for each new day. The interesting thing that I have realized by doing so is that the more I do this the more I need to do it throughout the day. I try to find small windows throughout my day to read more scripture or some spiritual text and pray. When I do, my day feels so much more ordered.
We were meant to spend time with God and allow scripture and spiritual teaching to fill us. But in doing so we must also learn to wait expectantly for the revelations scripture can bring. But like many other things in this life, we want it now, not later. We have forgotten how to wait.
You can also add to our inability to wait a growing inability to embrace solitude and silence. The enemy has so cluttered our lives with busyness and distractions that we feel we need something to fill every waking moment.
How can we expect to hear the Lord’s voice, to learn what scripture has to teach, when we can barely hear our own thoughts over the din around us.
