“Awake, sleeper, And arise from the dead, And Christ will shine on you.” (Ephesians 5:14)
Are you walking through this life as if you were asleep?
I recognize this quite often. People seem awake, but in reality they are just going through the motions, as if sleep walking. There is no spark in them, their faces betray their actions as on the outside they act as if they are awake but inside they are fully asleep.
I could say they have lost their will, but it may be they never had a will. They only know responsibility and action. There is nothing driving them aside from the will to survive.
Hey, I have been there. I have lived a life where I was simply surviving and not thriving. I was not necessarily asleep from a faith standpoint, but I had become somewhat dead inside. Living in survival mode may be necessary for a time, depending upon our circumstances. But we do not have to allow ourselves to die inside while we are. I let this happen. We let this happen.
When we live for a higher purpose we can keep the light kindled within us even when we are having to survive. We find we can thrive even in survival. But more importantly, we find that what lives within us is far stronger than our circumstances. We are bigger than our state.
So to the asleep, I say awaken. There is more to life than survival.
