Coming After The One

12 What do you think? If someone has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, won’t he leave the ninety-nine on the hillside and go and search for the stray? 13 And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he rejoices over that sheep[a] more than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray. 14 In the same way, it is not the will of your Father in heaven that one of these little ones perish. (Matthew 18:12-14 CSB)

It is wonderful to think that should we stray, God will come after us and bring us back to the fold.

All of us stray at times and go down our own paths for a period. This is human nature and the way in a fallen world. This is not to say that it is right or acceptable, it is more that it seems almost inevitable. Paul spoke of this and said of himself, “What a wretched man I am.”

Can you relate?

I know I can at times. Whether it is that things are going well and we simply take our eyes off heaven or we wantedly go our own way and sin, we are as lost sheep.

The beauty of God’s love for us is that He will leave the ninety-nine and come after us. This is the way of His love and his continual desire for us.

There has been placed within us a God sized hole and any time we are not filling that space with His Spirit, we will feel lost.
