30 ….he cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand, caught hold of him… (Matthew 14:30b-31a CSB)
How often do we cry out to be saved?
And Jesus is there each and every time.
God gives us free will and we are allowed to live, pretty much, the life we want to live. And while God gives us this freedom, he stands ever by to reach out and catch hold of us when we begin to sink.
This loving picture of our Father must be firmly entrenched in our minds. When all feels lost and we are at the end of our rope, God is there.
Peter had only to reach out for Jesus to grasp his hand and pull him up.
Yet, us in our stubbornness, we often go far too long without reaching out. Surely to God, but just as often to others as well. We were not meant to face this life, to bear its burdens, all on our own. No. God meant us for relationships and without them we are truly less.
Maybe it is time to reach out. During this time of year when we all look to come together, we should take the opportunity to both be a friend and to reach out to friends.
It too is a time to reach out to God, and to renew our faith with the renewing of the year.
