Are we Dead?

1  And you were dead in your trespasses and sins in which you previously walked according to the ways of this world, according to the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit now working in the disobedient. (Ephesians 2:1-2 CSB)

Are we dead? This is a good question to ask the living. Seems self-evident, yet scripturally before we came to the saving knowledge of Christ we were dead in our sins.

The key to this question lies in what we retained from our previous sinful life, or what we have fostered that is not in line with our life in Christ.

The dead have no place among the living. And the acts of the dead have no place within our faith lives.

You see those acts are in accordance with the ways of the world of which we are apart but we must stand apart. Because the ruler of this world, the spirit of disobedience, is not the Spirit by which we should be living.

This requires close examination and contemplation to look into every aspect of our lives. It is easy to gloss over a question like this without a second thought because we know we are among the living. But we must look deeply to find the dead parts of our lives.
