3 If anyone teaches false doctrine and does not agree with the sound teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ and with the teaching that promotes godliness, 4 he is conceited and understands nothing, but has an unhealthy interest in disputes and arguments over words. From these come envy, quarreling, slander, evil suspicions, 5 and constant disagreement among people whose minds are depraved and deprived of the truth, who imagine that godliness is a way to material gain.[c]6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and[d] we can take nothing out. (1 Timothy 6:3-6 CSB)
A bit longer passage this morning, but well worth the time to read and ponder, for what is contained within speaks directly to our current societal state.
There is quite a lot we could unpack in these verses from Paul. But allow me to summarize.
Christ teaching promotes godliness.
Yet, the world wants nothing to do with sound teaching, nor truth.
It prefers to argue and become angry and seeks only to disagree; to call truth a lie and lies truth.
But what is within scripture is truth and from it comes great gain for our spirit into eternity.
For on the earth we came with nothing and we will leave with nothing, except our salvation if we believe.
Love conquers all.
