Redeemed

29 The king swore an oath and said, “As the Lord lives, who has redeemed my life from every difficulty, (1 Kings 1:29 CSB)

King David was about to confirm Solomon as King, but he began his statement with his own confirmation of just who had redeemed his life from every difficulty.

Notice he says redeemed and not delivered.

The dictionary defines redeemed as “compensate for the faults or bad aspects of (something).” David knew that the Lord had compensated for his weaknesses and sins. David too, after a long life, had atoned for his sins and realized his shortcomings.

David ultimately lived out Gods confirmation of “a man after God’s own heart”.

David was tested and failed on a number of occasions but he never forgot who his redeemer. He was human and that humanness was evident in his life. But so too was his desire for God.

We all fail and fall short of God’s glory. But we too have Christ as our redeemer who has compensated for our faults and bad aspects.

Our job it to recognize this each and every day and to know that God is forever there for us and is redeeming us daily.
