12 Indeed, this is our boast: The testimony of our conscience is that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially toward you, with godly sincerity and purity, not by human wisdom but by God’s grace. 13 For we are writing nothing to you other than what you can read and also understand. I hope you will understand completely – (2 Corinthians 1:12-13 CSB)
Scripture is revealed to us once we come to belief. However, before we are within this state of grace there is typically a period of reading and searching both scripture and commentary. This is important both before we are saved and after. We must strive to understand scripture so that we might understand God and our relationship to Him.
Even before our understanding is comprehensive we are told to test every spirit. Meaning that we should test everything we hear and read against scripture.
Hopefully, once one becomes comfortable with this process “we are writing nothing to you other than what you can read and also understand.”
I often wonder who these devotions reach. I often wonder if my words have a positive impact. It is so easy to question ourselves and what we feel is our calling. We each have our walk with God and each of us has to test that which we are called to do against the messages and understanding God gives us. This may be the most difficult thing to understand.
However, if our walk takes us down the path of preaching/teaching/talking/writing/displaying Christ crucified in our lives. Well, then I suspect we are on a pretty good path.
