7 When you pray, don’t babble like the Gentiles, since they imagine they’ll be heard for their many words. 8 Don’t be like them, because your Father knows the things you need before you ask him. (Matthew 6:7-8 CSB)
I have a weather app on my phone that when you open it the splash screen says “Know Before”. I think that is good advertising because when I go to it I am looking to know about the weather before I start my day, my week, the weekend, a bike ride, camping, grilling……
There is a comfort in knowing before you being something that things will work out. This may be partially true when making plans but it is highly important when I am in the middle of something I have planned.
Our scripture today assures us that God, “Knows the things you need before you ask him.” It says that we need not babble on about our needs, and in fact one thing that I have begun to do is pray my thanks that God is already seeing to my needs. I think this kind of forward thinking helps me to accept whatever God’s answer might be to my prayers.
God knows every outcome to every event of our lives. So you may ask, if this is so where is free will. Well, he knows every possible outcome, but he lets us choose the course. If we are open to his leading he will guide us down his path. But if we choose to take our own path he knows too where that leads and allows it even if it is not in our best interest.
Isn’t it great that God knows us so well!
