2 Why do you spend silver on what is not food,
and your wages on what does not satisfy? (Isaiah 55:2a CSB)

This may seem a simple question only focused on what we use our money for. However it has much deeper implication.

Scripture often has meaning that extends far beyond the simple questions posed. It is meant for us to think more deeply and question our behavior and our faith. Thus to get to the deeper meaning we must restate the question as “Why do we spend our money on that which does not sustain the body. Why do we waste our time on things which only satisfy our human wants and desires?”

This specific scripture I have been chewing on all week. It spoke to me and kinda hit a deep nerve for me. Money, at times, seems to flow through our hands like water. We go through periods where we cannot seem to hold on to what is important. The demands of life are overwhelming, especially financially, and we find our selves having to make hard choices to simply get by or to manage one need over another.

It may be at times like these when simple scripture really hits home. It is times like these when we need to read each word, line and paragraph for the possible deeper meaning God has in store for us.
