2 If I have the gift of prophecy and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so that I can move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing. (1 Corinthians 13:2 CSB)
Why is it that our scripture today takes such lofty things as these mentioned but say that they are nothing?
Because love is the glue that binds them together. Love is what God is and what we aspire to. It is the one invaluable commodity when used correctly that binds all others.
Thus, if we do not have love we are nothing.
Now, so that we do not misunderstand; the first act of love is that of God’s love toward us and it is unconditional. So from this we must learn to love ourselves, because it is very difficult to love others when we do not love ourselves. Furthermore, do not misconstrue vain self-love with loving ourselves as God loves us. God’s love is an Agape love as ours should be.
Armed with this knowlege of how God loves us and how we are to love, our spiritual gifts can be completed. We are now able to use our gifts in love.
