47 And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, what are you doing out of the ordinary?[a] Don’t even the Gentiles[b] do the same? (Matthew 5:47 CSB)
We often do not think much about a greeting. We come and go in our busy lives and our “Hi” become perfunctory.
There is a comfort in greeting our friends that, by the nature of our friendship, creates a certain nonchalantness.
However, the world turns on a dime and we never know what the next moment may bring. I think this time has shown us just how much we need personal interaction.
I was lucky enough to meet a gentleman yesterday who was going through a difficult season. He had just lost his mother and the emotion of the event were still very raw. We were able to speak about it and pray together. It was special to me to spend some time with him and hopefull, in some small measure, ease his pain.
You just never know what is in a greeting.
