16 I say then, walk by the Spirit and you will certainly not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want. (Galatians 5:16-17 CSB)
Conflicting views – that is our flesh and the Spirit.
There are a myriad of choices we make each and every moment of every day. We are the byproduct of these choices. We may work out the reasoning behind the the impact of each choice, but more often, we make them in the heat of the moment. We make them based more on emotion than on rationalization.
Now, does every choice require contemplation. Not necessarily. But even seemingly simple choices, when strung together, may lead to something with far greater impact. In fact this is a far more common situation where a string of simple choices lead to a greater situation with far reaching impact.
Our sinful self wants what it wants which is contrary to the Spirit. Which means that it wants to make choices based upon emotion. On what we want rather than what might be needed. On a step in the wrong direction instead of a decision fo the right outcome.
Simple choices and conflicting views can lead us astray. Thus, we should make even simple choices with the Spirits backing and some thought to the ultimate outcome.
