20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’
21 “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.” (Luke 12:20-21 CSB)
We look to our investments or the homes we have, the things we have stored up for our lives. Yet, we have no idea how long we might live. Each day is a blessing yet we continually look toward tomorrow.
There is nothing wrong with planning. But if you read back a bit in this chapter of Luke you will find a lot of “I’s” and “My’s”. Do you find yourself “I’ing” and “My’ing” about where you are and what you have in life?
We tend to do that. Thinking, “look at what I have done with my life” – no matter whether we are successful or not. In the former we believe too much in our capabilities and in the latter too much in our failures.
When God is the first stop in any thought of conversation about who we are, what we have or how we have done – then, we find the root of all things. God is in all and through all.
