Before All, In All, Beyond All

“I am the Alpha and the Omega, [a]the Beginning and the End,” says the [b]Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” (Revelations 1:8 NKJV)

God is before all things, in all things and is beyond all things. This requires careful thought and more than a little meditation.

It may be, in fact, too infinite for our tiny human brains to truly comprehend. Before anything began, God was. What was He doing? How long had He been there? Our minds take on our human understanding of space, time and function. We cannot comprehend an all powerful God who is and was is and is to be. We function in this tiny, infinitesimal moment in time. We are given right now. Yesterday’s decisions and actions are done, tomorrow’s are yet to happen, we have only this moment. We are guaranteed nothing more.

When our heads start to contemplate our moment in time and God’s infinite nature, well there is just too big a gap. But, we can take some comfort in this. He knows our now, our yesterday and our tomorrow and still He loves us. When I look back at all the bad decisions I have made and consider all I might make, I wonder at God’s love. He is so far beyond my personal failures that He sees the man within who is better than that. He is infinite in so many ways that I can only take comfort in His power.

Reflect on: God and yourself. No, you will never come close, but you don’t have to. He fills the gap with His Son.
