How We Connect

4 [a]Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. (James 4:4 NKJV)

We are so intimately connected with this world, can we say the same of our intimate connection with God?

There was a time when we were more connected to one another and the land. Growing up in small towns in Texas without cell phone, computer or the internet was a good time. Social pressures came in school or through interactions with friends and neighbors. We did not know how everyone in the world felt about our comments like we do today. Like I said, it was a good time.

Now we are so connected with the world that we are blinded by what we see most, which tends to be on our phones. Even time spent in the Word, for many, comes through their phones. This is why I carry my Bible and a note pad with me. When I want to spend time with God, I do not want it to be on a screen. It is not that God can’t work through that medium, but it is that that medium has too many other hooks to grab our attention.

Reflect on: How you connect to God and others. Is it only electronically, or is it more intimate than that?
