Day and Night

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. (Joshua 1:8 ESV)

It may seem a cumbersome task to meditate upon the scripture day and night. I mean, we are not monks who are sequestered in a monastery where our days and nights are focused upon nothing but scriptural learning and prayer. We live in a bustling world and have many responsibilities that keep us, at times, far from night and day meditation.

But how is that working for us?

I would venture, not all that well. We are letting the world and the enemy have their way with us and he is doing his level best to keep us distracted. There are also all of the responsibilities we have brought upon ourselves that keep us distracted. But, work and other responsibilities are a requirement that none of us can simply ignore.

While God would love for us to live a sequestered life with Him, He understands that most of us cannot. He, therefore, only ask that we make scripture and prayer a priority in our lives. He only wants a close personal relationship with us that comes through this practice.

Reflect on: Just how much time you really spend in the scripture and praying. How can you make it a day and night priority?
