11 Wealth gained hastily[a] will dwindle,
but whoever gathers little by little will increase it. (Proverbs 13:11 ESV)
Looking back over my life I can see it has been one of slow steady gains in just about every area. From financial gains, to my health, to how my wife and I have built our lives together there was no great jumps, just slow steady gains. This is probably why we both feel that we have worked for where we are, but in truth, everything has been God given.
Even in my spiritual life, I have never had great epiphanies, no mountain top experiences, just slow steady gains. I am not a scholar. What I have learned about scripture has been about reading, praying and gaining insights from the Spirit one step at a time. God has knocked me back a few times when I got ahead of myself. But in general, my Christian growth has been marked with a simple progression of faith.
However, looking back in every case the slow steady progression has also instilled a deeply seated faith and outlook on life that I trust.
Reflect on: All forms of progression in your life. Have they been marked by slow steady gains or have you experienced meteoric growth? If you did, did that growth last?
