7 “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,
whose trust is the Lord.
8 He is like a tree planted by water,
that sends out its roots by the stream,
and does not fear when heat comes,
for its leaves remain green,
and is not anxious in the year of drought,
for it does not cease to bear fruit.” (Jeremiah 17:7-8 ESV)
I have written often about bearing fruit. What I may have been remiss to discuss that for this we must be people who trust in and whose trust is the Lord. I like how our scripture puts that. It does not end at simply trusting God, but it explains that that trust IS the Lord. Really contemplate that turn of phrase.
When our trust is in and is the Lord then we stay firmly planted there. Our faith grows like a tree planted near a stream, whose nutrients always flow and we become strong and sturdy in that faith. The roots of our faith sink deep, the trunk of our faith is strong, the limbs of our faith extend outward toward mankind and lastly we are evergreen in our faithful optimism.
Reflect on: Can your faith be described as in God and as being is God?
