Missed Opportunity

And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” (Luke 5:4-5 ESV)

Do you ever wonder how many times God has prompted you to do something that seemed insignificant and futile but had significant blessings attached? The bigger question is did you do it or do you still wonder if you missed an opportunity.

We may consider life’s missed opportunities to be more business or financially based. But far more often, I believe, they are spiritually based. We have a prompting from God that we discount or make an excuse to not follow and we miss a divine opportunity. God gives us many opportunities to do more for Him and the Kingdom but we must be focused upon Christ to catch them when they come.

Simon ended a frustrating night with a bountiful catch. Had he not listened to Christ he would have gone home empty handed. When God calls upon us He may have an immediate blessing to bestow on us or others if we will but do our part and follow His gentle nudging. We be mindful of His prompting and to do this we must practice the presence of Christ all the time so that we are ready to act.
