5 Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus,
6 who, existing in the form of God,
did not consider equality with God
as something to be exploited.[a]
7 Instead he emptied himself
by assuming the form of a servant,
taking on the likeness of humanity.
And when he had come as a man, (Philippians 2:5-7 CSB)
Having the humbleness to not see ourselves as equals or to assume the form of a servant does not come easy or natural. No, we want to be above others, we want to be on the top. We may speak of equality but we do not want to go to the difficult task of actually making it manifest in our lives. And more than all of these things we do not want to be taken advantage of or exploited.
Yet in many ways we do all of these things with God. Especially the exploitation. We want God to be always the giver of good and we question Him when anything bad comes into our lives. We often relegate God to the genie in the bottle. There to pop out and grant our wishes when we want.
We forget that Christ gave up everything for us. We forget that on the cross He emptied himself and took on every sin for every believer for all time. This should make us drop to our knees and weep.
We must seek to take on Christ attitude and humble our selves. To pour ourselves out for others and in doing so point our every action to God.
