3 But I fear that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your minds may be seduced from a sincere and pure[a] devotion to Christ. (2 Corinthians 11:3 CSB)
Let us consider this morning a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.
As our scripture denotes, our minds are easily seduced and led astray. I have written about this many times. We do not know how to do “silence” any more. We opt for a world cluttered with distraction. In fact many of us are just waiting for the next distraction right now.
But to sit in silence and listen only for the still, small voice of God is too much to ask.
The art of silence is something that must be cultivated. When I am sitting and reading my bible or devotionals I want the world to disappear. I crave total silence and solitude so that I might get the most from my time with God.
This is hard. It means getting up early and carving out specific time so that I might try to improve just a little more each day.
Crafting the art of silence within our lives takes a enhanced realization of time. If you feel that each day time slips through your fingers, begin to cultivate sections of your day to sit in solitude, read a little scripture and listen for God. Only then can we hope for a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.
