17 Everyone must appear with a gift suited to his means, according to the blessing the Lord your God has given you. (Deuteronomy 16:17 CSB)
God loves a cheerful giver.
While the Old Testament set a portion to give of 10% of the first fruits, the New Testament focuses upon the person’s heart and situation. Both are good practices, whether you focus on a certain percentage or on something suited to your means. God simply wants us to do so with a glad heart.
The widow in scripture brought a few pennies, but that was more than she had to give. Yet, her faith lead her to give all she could, trusting that God would take care of her.
In our world of more, more, more, we tend to have less, less, less. Nothing we have will bring us lasting pleasure. I realize that I have a habit of needing a project to be working on to feel fulfilled. However, there is a difference between fulfillment and happiness. I know that when the project is over, I will need another. Yet, with God I know that no matter what, I can look for happiness (joy) in what He has allotted to me and in his plan for me.
I try to view life from the blessing I have been given.
