4 In all his scheming,
the wicked person arrogantly thinks,[a]
“There’s no accountability,
since there’s no God.” (Psalm 10:4 CSB)
I wrote recently about respect and fear. Both lead to accountability. But what if there is no God in another person’s world view?
Yes, maybe they are guided by some other moral compass. They hold themselves accountable to some set of guidelines. But without God there are also no absolutes.
This may seem a hard line to draw, but just look at human nature. We are born into sin and we can see all around us the byproducts of a life without God. Our nature is not one of goodness. It is one of selfishness, greed and pride. It is a life of arrogance where we are at it’s center.
Only when we recognize and are accountable to a loving God do we displace ourselves from that selfish centered state. There is something bigger than us to focus on. We then can focus too on our fellow man.
Accountability is not a bad thing. It is not a leash, nor is it shackles. It is guidance and hope in something far greater than ourselves.
