These few sentences from my personal devotional really spoke to me this morning – “Notice that this verse does not say that Paul was always happy. Happiness depends upon circumstances, but for believers, contentment is possible in any situation because it’s anchored in God.“

I know from current personal circumstances that happiness may be elusive. However, as noted, this does not mean I am not content. It does not mean that I do not feel and see God’s hand working in my life. To the contrary, I see it ever present and pressing me forward even in difficulty.

Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.
