Keep Yourself Unspotted

27 Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world. (James 1:27 NKJV)

How can we keep ourselves unspotted from the world? Is that even possible!

There is much this world offers that we must decide, as Christians, that we are not going to involve ourselves in. Much afforded to us, through the free will God gives, that we simply need to say no to. As such, I do not think it is an accident that this line of scripture defines pure and undefiled religion before God. Throughout scripture we are given example after example of how to live an unspotted life, but our own sin, the world and the enemy all transpire to drag us down.

I believe this is why other scripture tells us to pray unceasingly. To constantly look up and to keep our eyes fixed upon Christ. To take up our cross daily and fight the good fight. We cannot hope to live the life God meant for us unless we stay focused wholly upon the goal. We have to have our minds focused upon where we are going and not where we are. I believe this is why the Christian life is often referred to as The Walk. For we must keep our eyes fixed on the path ahead so we do not wander from the path God has before us.

Reflect on: How you are striving to live an unspotted life on the path God has before you.
