12 having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation. 13 Therefore submit yourselves to every [a]ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake, whether to the king as supreme, (1 Peter 2:12-13 NKJV)
When we consider our conduct around others, do we believe they would immediately say that we were believers? Would they also see our works as God honoring? It can be tough in the competitive world we live in to continually keep ourselves in a state of humble achievement. Meaning that we are doing all we can to be successful in life and business, but doing so in a way that always honors God and others. I pray the life I lead represents this daily.
Furthermore, do we do so while honoring those we work with and the authorities in both our work lives and in the world around us? This may be an even taller order as many of us hold strong opinions regarding others, especially those in power. We must not let this cause us to give others cause to question our faithfulness. We must be strong in upholding our beliefs while we are cautious about our words regarding those we do not align with. Honoring those in power, especially political power, even if we disagree should change how we approach differing opinions.
Reflect on: How you believe others regard you and your honoring of God through honoring others.
