6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV)
The small anxieties that tend to haunt us can give way to much greater fears about life. Even when one has a strong faith life we may find small anxieties creeping in and undermining what should be a steadfast knowledge that God will work all things out. However, anxiety can give birth to depression that also can weed away at our lives.
Aside from taking these things to God, I wish I had sage advice that could help those who experience this. I, myself, have struggled with anxiety and depression. However, mine tends to be relegated to the small hours of the morning when I wake up with this or that concern that I can’t get out of my head. I told a friend recently that when this happens I do best when I go ahead and get up and open my Bible. 15-20 minutes of reading scripture typically tends to refocus my attention where it should be so I can gain the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding.
Reflect on: What makes you anxious or the small anxieties that creep in and how you deal with them. Are you turning to God?
