18 For in much wisdom is much grief,
And he who increases knowledge increases sorrow. (Ecclesiastes 1:18 NKJV)
We all want to add wisdom, but we do not necessarily consider with even moderate wisdom comes the potential for our sorrow’s increasing. The phrase, “ignorance is bliss”, did not come about for no reason. Sometimes knowing less can make for an easier and happier life. But we cannot live with our head buried in the sand. When we seek wisdom, we must commiseratively grow with it. We cannot hope to gain wisdom and simply stay as we were.
I think back over the years and consider the time where I was just too busy and focused on growing my career to be concerned about much else. Now, later in life, I look back through the eyes of wisdom gained through experience and lament much. It is not so much that I have a lot of regrets, but more that the knowledge of where I am from where I came from lends itself to much introspection. That introspection has some sorrow attached to it.
We need to lean on God and know that He is the one we must trust with both our past and our future. Not allowing the wisdom we gain to attach much sorrow or grief.
Reflect on: How the wisdom of where you are makes you look back on where you have been.
With Much Wisdom, Much Grief
