I think one of the hardest things is making true and lasting change in one’s life. Especially as we have gained some years and habits that we may not like or have habitual sin in our lives, breaking out of those cycles can be a very daunting task.
13 Brothers and sisters, I do not[a] consider myself to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead, 14 I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly[b] call in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:13-14 NKJV)
Paul gave us good advice regarding life change. He stated that we must forget what is behind and reach for what is ahead. When we live in the past or in the habits of many years lived, we must forget what we have done and strive for what is ahead. We must, as I say often, begin with the end in mind. We also must keep our goal firmly planted in our mind so that we do not lose track and fall back so easily into habit.
The fact is, down deep, we really do not like change. We like the comfort of our routine and the ease of how it is living with those deep seated habits. There are many things I want to change about myself, but one is how I deal with (or really don’t) the fact that I am diabetic. The lure and habit of white powder donuts is very strong. I know that there is no way I should be eating anything like that, but man are they good. Donuts are, in general, a gateway drug for me!
To truly change there has to first be a mindset change that does not allow the white powder donuts of life to seep back in. There has to be discipline, which is a dirty word now, to maintain!
Reflect on: What you need to change and how you are approaching said change.
