The last few weeks have given me a keep perspective on my and others around me a view of sowing and reaping in one’s life. It has made me very introspective and shown me that, like a farm or garden, life has to be cultivated.
7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:7-10 NKJV)
This scripture has many aspects regarding how to live a good faith life. But I find two aspects most sobering; God is not mocked and Whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.
I want you to take a few moments and let that sink in. To really allow it to permeate your mind this morning so that you might meditate upon it each now and every day.
There are many scriptures that reference some aspect of planting, growing and reaping. Granted, God did this because the world in which these scriptures were written were agrarian. However, they have just as much relevance today as they did then, it is just that mainstream culture is so far removed from an agrarian life that they may not internalize the message. This does not make the message any less powerful, but just shows that we may need to dig more to understand them. I grew up in small Texas towns and actually was around farms and agriculture and I am greatly thankful of that because it gave me an appreciation for it and some light knowledge of it. There is a simplicity to this life, but also much complexity to how one makes and maintain crops. There is much to learn about the cycles of the earth and life gained from such a life.
This is what makes it perfect for scriptural references. Like the farmer we must cultivate a spiritual life. Understand its cycles and how to grow it. We cannot discount (mock) the One who is both the maker and perfecter of our faith. We must tend it well, sowing the right things and producing the fruit of goodness.
Reflect on: What you are sowing into your life.
