27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,
when it is in your power to act. (Proverbs 3:27 NIV)
I think we often sell ourselves short. We realize that something needs to be done, it is in our power to act but we do nothing. We convince ourselves that someone else will do it, or that we need to wait for some form of authority, we simply talk ourselves out of a right action.
I realize that people really do not want to involve themselves in others lives. They are uncomfortable even asking if another needs help. The easiest way I have found to overcome this fear and not seem like I am prying is to ask if another needs me to pray for them. Or, at times, I will just tell them I am praying for them if I really sense they are uncomfortable with whatever they are dealing with. I have almost never had a negative response to this and often people will completely open up about what they are dealing with.
If it is in your power to act….act!
Reflect on: You tendency to either act or not act when you see the need. Do you need to reconsider your typical response?
