The Liberty You Have

9 But beware lest somehow this liberty of yours become a [a]stumbling block to those who are weak. (1 Corinthians 8:9 NKJV)

We may not well consider the liberty we have being in Christ. Especially as we mature as believers, we get comfortable in our faith and we can be less aware of the things we do in the level of comfort a close relationship brings. We do not want that comfort to become a stumbling block to others. Our freedom from a longer mature relationship with Christ brings with it certain scriptural understanding that gives us the ability to paint outside the lines without actually sinning. This is not taking advantage of any ambiguity, but is a clear understanding of what is possible in Christ.

Today’s scripture points to the care we need to take while exercising these liberties. We should be keenly aware of those around us and how they might be watching what we do and say. We need to ask ourselves if we are leading them closer to Christ, or are we causing them confusion or misunderstanding? Taking care with their lack of knowledge as an unbeliever or sensitive/fragile state as a new believer. We should always be looking toward Christ and seeking the Spirits guidance.

Reflect on: How comfortable you might have become in the freedom and maturity of your faith. Maybe take a moment and realize how you are viewed by others.
