⁴⁵ that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; forHe makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. (Matthew 5:45 NKJV)

It can be easy to forget the function of our scripture today. It does not necessarily provide comfort, but it does provide the truth of God. We wonder at why a good and loving God would treat both the good and the evil the same way. In this we forget that we are all but dirty rags in God’s sight. It is only through His love and His Son that we are given a pathway to heaven.

Some will say, “well that is not the God I serve!” But, it is. You may not like it but God is the great equalizer. He shows us that even while we are sinners He loved us. Thus, He loves the good and the evil. You too were evil once, maybe in some ways you still are. We all tend to harbor sin, which is evil, but we see ourselves as good. This is, of course, only in our eyes.

Reflect on: The good and the evil you do. Thank God that He forgave/forgives you even when you are evil!
