The last week we spent in New Mexico, in a cabin in the woods. It was not just very relaxing, which I really needed, but it is always so cathartic to be in nature. I always feel so much closer to God without the distractions of the modern world assailing my senses as they do when I am at home. I know, I could reduce that distraction there as well, but it is far harder.
Scripture tells us about how nature itself explains God to us and after this week I feel the truth of that. Just taking a hike this week and talking to God, there was a closeness that I cannot find in the city. I once took a week long silent sabbatical and when I was coming home I truly felt assaulted by the world. There is so much that we do not realize assails us in our normal day to day life until we step away from it, and I mean really step away from it.
