24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. (James 1:24 NKJV)
This week has been about reflection and what better scripture that captures how we can forget our own reflection than our’s today?
I especially like this translation as it more pointedly notes how we can forget ourselves. We do not have to get very far in life to recognize what kind of person we are. We are formed at an early age and begin to become the person we will be. Life moves on and many things influence the man (or woman) we become. All of those traits are fashioned by environmental, emotional and yes, spiritual influences in our lives. Even those who do not have a Christian influence are being influenced in some spiritual way. We cannot discount this aspect of who we become.
Later in life we can find ourselves drifting from who we became and losing our way from God. Or maybe we came to a spiritual life late and are unsure how to grow as God ment for us to do. In what ever way we wander from the path of who we are, scripture can help us to recognize and right our course. God does not wish for us to wander aimlessly in this life. Even when our difficult seasons drag on, God is there directing our course and gently guiding us ever toward Him least we forget the man He made us to be.
Reflect on: How you were formed in this life, the influences that shaped you and how God plays into that formation.
