4 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you. And the people shall go out and gather [a]a certain quota every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in My law or not. (Exodus 16:4 NKJV)
11 Give us this day our daily bread. (Matthew 6:11 NKJV)
We want God to grant us our big prayers, make successful our grandiose plans, make our prayers complete. We do not tend to ask for what He is more often willing to give us, simply our daily bread. And no, I am not actually talking about bread, however He does that too. No, I am talking about God being the God of moments, of days.
God fulfilled the Israelites daily needs, but even then they grumbled. The manna was not enough, so he sent quail and He also made sure they had water. But still we grumble. Giving us today is not enough, our daily bread falls short. We want God to be fulfilling our bigger request, our longer term goals. These are harder to see day by day.
But look what God was looking for at the end of the first verse, “that I may test them, whether they will walk in My law or not.” You see, like the Israelites, we want God to fulfill our bigger plans but we do not look for Him in the moment by moment, we do not heed His scripture day by day. He is looking for how we follow before He will lead us further.
Reflect on: Are you simply asking God to give you your daily bread, or are you looking for more, much, much more….?
