2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he [a]meditates day and night.
3 He shall be like a tree
Planted by the [b]rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper. (Psalm 1:2-3 NKJV)
Trees that are planted near a water source tend to grow the strongest because their roots are sunken deep to draw in the life giving source. We too must be planted near the life giving source and sink our roots deep into God’s Word, the river of living water in our lives.
I spend my mornings in God’s Word, but even so I do not feel like it is enough. I take my Bible with me but due to the hectic nature of my day rarely get a chance to open it. If I get an actual break at lunch I do try to at least read a few verses and pray. The fact of the matter is that I let my day rule me instead of me ruling it most of the time.
I do know when I am making more time for study and prayer I feel much better and my day seems more ordered. I know this, but still my time gets away from me. I am sure many of you feel the same way and maybe you feel that I write about this too much. However, I believe that scripture is clear that our delight should be in God’s Word.
Reflect on: Just run a test. Take one day and live it like normal, then take the next and plug in time for God’s Word and prayer. See how the difference feels.
